Akrad Radio was one of NZ's biggest radio producers for many years. From its small beginnings in 1932 by 1953 it had joined forces with a British company and began making PYE radios in NZ. In 1967 Philips of Holland had a 60% share in the company and in 1982 in a major restructure Philips wound up Akrad Radio Corp marking the end of an era for the small country town of Waihi.
