Columbus radio was first produced under the brand name Columbus in 1937 along with
the Courtnay name which was carried over from previous production and carried
on until 1960.There were a large number of models produced from large wooden consoles
to small plastics which were being produced by 1960. |
The pictures you can see are from an original brouchure to advertise Columbus radios
in the 1940s, this is what you would have been given when you went into a shop
to inquire about a radio. |
"FLEET" |
"SQUADRON" |
"CONVOY" |
"VICTORY" |
These radios were produced in the later part of world war two and after the war had
ended and were named as shown, I guess it made a statement about the victory
which had been won. The large Squadron model above would have looked awesome in
the lounge of a house in the 1940s. |
