Columbus radio was first produced under the brand name Columbus in 1937 along with the Courtnay name which was carried over from previous production and carried on until 1960.There were a large number of models produced from large wooden consoles to small plastics which were being produced by 1960.
The pictures you can see are from an original brouchure to advertise Columbus radios in the 1940s, this is what you would have been given when you went into a shop to inquire about a radio.
"FLEET"
"SQUADRON"
"CONVOY"
"VICTORY"
These radios were produced in the later part of world war two and after the war had ended and were named as shown, I guess it made a statement about the victory which had been won. The large Squadron model above would have looked awesome in the lounge of a house in the 1940s.
